Travel Information
Local currency
The local currency is called the Tanzanian Shilling TSH. It is recommended to arrive in Tanzania with dollars and exchange at certified stores for money changers located throughout the major cities.
Please note that only banknotes printed after 2009 are accepted in the city
It is very important to exchange money only in organized places, converting on the black market is a serious violation of the law here.
Transport
Within the city of Arusha you can get around with motorcycles waiting at every street corner (PIKI PIKI) The cost of the trip depends on the distance but is usually 1,000 shillings per person.
It is also safe to take a jaj-rickshaw, wave of the hand or use the BOLT app. In Dar es Salaam you can also use Uber.
Getting from the airport to Arusha: It is recommended to book a driver before the flight to wait for you when you land, there is no taxi company arranged at the exit from Kalimanjaro Airport. The price is about 70,000 shillings – 30 dollars, you can also pay in dollars of course.
Tourism companies and attraction closures
Safari and climbing company recommendations change all the time, our recommendation is to enter the tour group and get an up-to-date review from travelers.
It is very important before closing a trip to hear a review and make sure that it is a reliable company, as there are many scams in the field.
It is customary to pay a down payment when closing the trip, the tour company has to close accommodation for you or buy entrance tickets to the reserves. The rest is paid before going on a trip – most companies require cash.

Security & Safety
Tanzanians love Israel and the Jews. There is no overt anti-Semitism and one can walk proudly with Jewish and religious symbols without fear.
During the daytime, Arusha is safe even for solo travelers, but keep your phone safe from motorbike drivers who may be kidnapped and travel.
The villages are even safer and there is no fear of theft – because everyone knows everyone…
At night it is dangerous to walk around Arusha and other major cities. A car must be taken to get around.
We at Chabad House ensure secure escort after the Friday night meal to the accommodations closest to Beit Chabad (up to 15 minutes walk)
